Dr. Tim Smith is the President of SongSmith Ministries, established in 1994 for the purpose of equipping and releasing worshipers globally. The emphasis on customized Worship Seminars was expanded in 2006 through the creation of Worship Without Borders. His desire is to encourage, impact and serve worshipers cross-denominationally as well as internationally, regardless of style or methodology. He is just as passionate about expressing love for God in hymns and tradition as he is in progressive worship and the creative song. Tim the Educator:Tim holds a Bachelor in Music Education from Northwest Nazarene University. He did his post-graduate studies in secondary music education at Western Oregon University and received his Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Moriah Institute of Christian Studies in North Carolina. Tim has taught orchestra, guitar and choirs in public and private schools for 27 years. He oversaw the Church Music Department of City Bible Church and taught for 13 years at Portland Bible College . While there, he developed a thriving Church Music Ministry Degree Program and raised up many worship teams to minister the word and inspire worship around the world. More than 25 nations have now been touched by these teams. Many of Tim's former students are now ministering as worship leaders and pastors in churches worldwide.Tim the Pastor:For the past 12 years, Tim served as a staff pastor at Living Hope Fellowship (Pastor Jess Strickland) in Aloha, Oregon where he not only led the worship ministry of the church, but also functioned pastorally. His role extended beyond the Sunday Worship services to include worshiping with recovery ministry, senior saints and children's ministry as well as leading prayer meetings, counseling, preaching; basically influencing the life of the church on an everyday basis. At the same time, SongSmith Ministries was taking Tim into multiple nations as he continued to stir and guide the passion for Jesus Christ in the hearts of worship leaders and worship teams globally.Eventually, Tim felt God calling him to invest his life more fully as a worship missionary. In 2006 he resigned his position at LHF, where he is still an active member, to devote his energies to Worship Without Borders. His time spent as a pastor gives him a unique and intimate perspective on the impact and challenges of implementing worship in the many unique settings of the local church. This real life understanding deeply impacts his ability to minister practically and to impart faith and vision in a positive and compassionate way. Tim the Composer/Musician:Tim is a professional cellist as well as an accomplished pianist and guitarist. His love for working with musicians naturally integrates with his skills as a choral director, songwriter, arranger and worship leader. Tim has written hundreds of songs, many of which are translated and sung around the world. He is a published composer with Integrity Music and was instrumental in birthing CCLI, an international copyright licensing organization for the church.Maryl Smith:Tim loves to minister and sing alongside his wife, Maryl. She is a former flute teacher as well as an accomplished thespian who has written, directed and performed in a broad variety of musical drama presentations. Maryl developed and taught Creative Ministry classes for Portland Bible College. Currently, she interviews and writes for Good Catch Publishing, which creates quality evangelistic books of personal testimonies.Maryl holds an Associates of Theology degree and is nearing completion of a Bachelors of Theology. She is also licensed as a Certified Professional Midwife and has been in both private and group practice for more than 23 years.
